MAIR QUEST BOARD

Dutifully presented by a member of Ganondorf’s staff at the Castle of Mair, the following quests are presented for those in Mair looking to aid the city and so advance themselves in the city.

THE DITHERED KNIGHTS OF MAIR

OPEN:

Before our Lord Dragmire liberated the city from the old Lord Magister, there were a number of elite veteran soldiers who fought for the old trowe’s pleasure. Although they laid down their arms after the conquest and swore to do service to Mair’s new lord, their service has been less than exemplary. Having failed to answer the call to arms to defend Caer Scima, their behavior can no longer be tolerated. This particular band of knights, who all themselves the Magister’s Men, can be found at the Broken Axle, a disreputable tavern in the south side of the city.

Motivate them into battle in whatever way you deem necessary. Find their patriotic pride or if need be, put the fear of death in them. Be cautious though - even for shardbearers, you should not take these men lightly. They were once the very best Mair had to offer and though they may be drunk, it has not dulled their swords.

- ★★ SUCCESS METRIC: Any Unseelie character with two stars may accept this quest. A shardholder will need to find the soldiers, determine their ringleader, and talk some sense into them. The knights may have a particular issue that is leading them to some dissatisfaction and solving it may prove a smoother way of gaining their participation. A successful outcome will grant command over these knights.

LOVE POTION #3

CLAIMED: Howard Stark

Although Mair is filled with brothels, that has not prevented sorcerers from peddling love potions that are substantially more expensive than simply hiring a whore. Yet the trade persists, even as most love potions prove false. Not so in the case of a local sorcerer, Petty Pete, who claims to have finally unlocked the secret and has begun raking in a tidy profit on the streets to those tired of unrequited love and wealthy enough to do something about it.

However, our Lord Dragmire is hardly concerned with matters of love. All the same, he would like to have this love potion tested to see its true potency. A small sum of gold will be provided to purchase the potion, but it will be up to you to find Petty Pete. Due to his new found success, he’s been keeping a lower profile and his clientele is increasingly exclusive.

- ★ SUCCESS METRIC: Any Unseelie shardholder may accept this quest. A shardholder will need to do some snooping around to even make contact with Petty Pete. Once they’ve acquired the potion, they will need to find someone to test it on. A report of their findings is expected. A successful outcome will grant a position at court in Mair.

WENCH WAY DID THEY GO?

CLAIMED: Jack Benjamin

The soldiers of Mair benefit from the military discount brokered between our Lord Dragmire and the propieters of the brothels in Mair. Yet for some reason the Salty Wench has become a popular target for soldiers who go to find a comely wench for the night, only to not report for duty the next morning. While our lord is gracious enough to understand the desire for pleasure, these disappearances cannot go unchecked!

Consequently we will require someone to check into the brothel and discover what they may. Because shardholders are easily detected among the natives, you may need to employ some manner of proxy on your behalf.

- ★ SUCCESS METRIC: Any Unseelie character may accept this quest. With sufficient investigation, it will become apparent that the brothel is actually being used by deserters. The quester may shut down the operation or help cover their tracks. Prestige will be gained regardless, but they will gain status in Mair by exposing the plot.

WHERE THE WILDLINGS ARE (x5)

OPEN:
The Stoneborn
The Fairer
CLAIMED:
The Blood Men - Cesare Borgia
The Hill Goats - Bucky Barnes
The First Briaghan - Shijima Kurookano

Our Lord Dragmire has done much to make Mair a grand city, so it behooves us to spread our wealth to the east. The lands are wild and savage and filled with wildling villages. Most are small wandering tribes of no great consequence. There are however a few larger groups of a hundred or more that have banded together. Although our lord’s armies might crush them easily enough, we have been given opportunity to go ahead of Lord Dragmire and find other means to deal with them.

There are five villages to be found:

  • The Blood Men - Savage humans that pay homage to an ancient shardbearer who was said to have turned his own blood into a weapon. The Blood Men follow his example by bathing their weapons in blood - usually their enemy’s. They dwell among the open plains and have thrived by always attacking everyone else first.

  • The Stoneborn - Savage orcs who occupy the rocky mountains beyond the Forest of Brethil. Deeply situated in their stony home, they might have formed a stronghold and village if not for their bewildering tradition of burning down their lodgings at the end of each winter to start anew.

  • The First Briaghans - A tribe of halfbloods that all claim to be descended from the first to ever find the Briagha. Although researchers have proven this to be entirely untrue, that has not discouraged their stubborn belief in the tradition. Surprisingly un-warlike, they will accept any new initiate - so long as they can cross the razor-fish infested waters of the Briagha while nude.

  • The Fairer - Although they scarcely count for wildlings, they do live to the east. This... ah, ‘village’ is in fact a cult of imps who believe that by imitation, they can be blessed and turned into a fairy, Despite bearing no ill will towards the Unseelie, they are obsessed with becoming fairer and prettier creatures. At worst, they have been known to raid travelers for their clothes in an effort to pretty themselves.

  • The Hill Goats - Surprisingly un-goatlike, these wildling do not even live on a hill. In fact, they claim that Mair was stolen from them by the monarchs in centuries past for an outpost. They have nursed that grudge ever since and hate the monarchs, anyone associated with them, and especially anyone who happens to live in Mair. A nomadic tribe, their current whereabouts are unknown.

    - ★ SUCCESS METRIC: Any Unseelie shardholder may accept this quest. A shardholder must find the village and either convince them to accept Ganondorf as their liege lord, drive them off, or wipe out the village. Those who wish to simply wipe out the tribes will need to bring their own followers or find some manner to recruit their own. Tribes that are not dealt with by the end of the month will inevitably be wiped out when Ganondorf marches east. A successful outcome will grant a position at court.

    THE LIVERED EEL

    OPEN:

The distastefully named gambling house has been profitable for years now - perhaps too profitable. Whereas the old Lord Magister was too dimwitted to realize he was being cheated, our Lord Dragmire is not nearly so naive. They have been running their numbers and underpaying their taxes. When all the other honest people of Mair pay their fair share, it is unjust that this establishment should think themselves exempt from the laws that protect our city.

We will require a face not yet known to this city to enter the Livered Eel and discover what crooked practices are being used behind close doors. A sum of fifty gold coins will be provided to play at the tables and so gain the attention of the owner. Ingratiate yourself to him and discover his dirty little secret.

    - ★ SUCCESS METRIC: Only newly arrived Unseelie may accept this quest. That person must enter the casino as a patron and use their allotted gold to discover all they can and so make a report on their findings. The more evidence found, the better. A successful outcome will provide the quester with an additional hundred gold coins, on top of whatever winnings they might have gained.

    THE LEGEND OF GANONDORF

    OPEN:

It is incredible to remember that only half a year ago, the newly made Lord of Mair rode gallantly to the city of Redgate. It was told that he bested the greatest of Redgate’s soldiers, including the Lady Alyosha herself. Ah, but who could forget how he slew those shadowy devils and protected even the innocent children in the marketplace? But all of that paled to how valiantly he clung to the dragon, striking it repeatedly until its last breath. All this he did in spite of the cruel Seelie machinations to try and destroy the city.

But those are not his only deeds. Redgate wants nothing more than storytellers or bards to come and spread further tales of the Great Ganondorf. There is no shortage of material, though there is certainly no reason for a man or woman to make use of their creativity where history might yet fail them.

    - ★ SUCCESS METRIC: Any Unseelie may accept this quest. Whether by storytelling or song, go to Redgate and begin spreading tales of Ganondorf’s exploits outside of Redgate. While you’re there, feel free to pick up a Ganondorf figurine for your own personal collection. A successful outcome will have raised Ganondorf’s popularity in the city and simultaneously encourage anti-Seelie sentiment.

If you wish to take a quest: Reply to this post indicating which quest you would like. We will then work out how your character is made aware of the quest. These quests are distributed by Ganondorf’s City Affairs Minister on his behalf, so characters will not speak with Ganondorf unless they’ve completed their quest. Any shardholder in Mair would have ample opportunity to hear from him or one of his associates in Caer Scima.

These quests count for however many stars are shown under the Success Metric and require no NPCing. To complete the quest, you must have 1.5k total words of prose describing their attempts to fill this, at minimum. They are welcome to share this quest with another character, but only your own cumulative tags will count. For missions outside Mair, take into consideration travel times!
