CITY OF MAIR Over time the city has grown so that the edges of the city now thrives off the river Astar, with harbors and boats that travel up and down the river to buy and sell supplies to the rich farmlands that surround Mair. With both the river and the Road of Mair, the city has long held a dormant potential to enrich itself with trade. Of late this potential has been exploited as Lord Dragmire aggressively funds the expansion of Mair. Already there are talks of constructing a great bridge to link Dorchadas and Glaschu together.
Despite owing its allegiance to the Unseelie court, you can kick back here and relax for a while on your way home, eat well (owing to the decent pastures and fishing ports), find a comely partner for the night and leave in the morning with (almost) no regrets. Spend a night here, by all means, though it is no place to raise a family. ![]() On the cusp of the border between Glaschu and Dorchadas, east of the river Astar stands the castle of Mair. Set on a tall hill and built as if its towers rise out of the rock itself, it was fashioned by both Seelie and Unseelie during a brief time of peace some five-hundred years past. It traded hands several times throughout the years, but eventually it was reduced to a loosely defended town that would be led by local warlords. It was a place of ill repute and loyal to no one. Most were attracted to its as a place where fortunes were made and loss in its gambling houses. The very castle itself was host to most of these revelries and fell into severe disrepair. Recently it was seized by Ganondorf Dragmire as directed by Queen Morla. The city was taken by a small force and despite the castle's strong fortifications. Since then, builders have worked tirelessly to restore the castle its former glory. With fully manned walls, the castle has become a unassailable as it had been in years past. Of late it is primarily occupied by soldiers, knights, mercenaries, and those who receive Lord Dragmire's invitation. Entrance to the castle is strictly forbidden except to those who have an invitation. Within the castle's generous courtyards and barracks, new soldiers are trained from sunrise to sunset. Considered well fed and decently paid, the army of Mair has become a popular option among the mixed populace of humans, orcs, dwarves, and other races. A recent addition to the castle is a single tower that rises from the rear center of the hill. This stony black tower dwarfs the highest spires of the castle and acts as a contrast to the dull gray architecture of Castle Mair. The huge tower strikes an ominous presence above the landscape and its very highest reaches seems to be ever obscured by fog and cloud cover. The tower has been magically warded to prevent anyone but Ganondorf himself entering the tower. Indeed, it was built using his dark magic and only stands so long as his power remains. Roosting at the very top of the tower is the massive Helmaroc King. It does not descend into the city, though it has been known to pluck whole sheep and cattle from the distant farmlands as prey. A flock of other birds known as kargarocs roost around the city and surrounding area. These birds, with a wingspan of over two meters, seem to act as eyes for Lord Dragmire. Their population is small, but already they have begun to lay their first clutches of eggs.
MAUPERTIUS Though remote, the castle provides an excellent strategic fortification on the southern borders of Dorchadas and is not an easy castle to siege due to the mountainous terrain. The city largely subsists off provisions from Mair, though it is not without its own resources.
